To achieve its goal of carbon neutrality by 2030, Denison University is partnering with energy management planning consultants Ever-Green Energy. The planning team will identify energy system solutions to eliminate or offset greenhouse emissions from owned sources such as Denison’s energy plant as well as those that occur through those energy sources, such as electricity, that are purchased by the college.

During the process, Denison facilities and sustainability staff and Ever-Green consultants will consider current and future needs and resources of the campus. The resulting thorough, adaptable plan will look at all aspects of an energy program, including technology exploration, engineering and construction, financing strategies, operation, maintenance, management, and growth.

“Achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 and carbon net zero emissions by 2045 is our top operational goal, and we value Ever-Green’s expertise and partnership in accomplishing this,” said Jeremy King, Denison’s director of sustainability. “Their depth of knowledge and experience will also be welcome as we incorporate sustainability-related content and research into coursework and provide sustainability career support for students. No matter the major, we want every student to be exposed to the core principles and key issues related to global sustainability.”

Ever-Green will support campus engagement, communications, and academic enrichment related to the energy master planning with the goals of increasing energy literacy and building support for future energy projects.

“Denison has a long-standing history within its community, and an unwavering civic commitment that guides not only its aggressive carbon neutrality goals, but also its prioritization of educating its students on climate change, sustainability, and energy,” said Ken Smith, CEO of Ever-Green Energy. “We look forward to collaborating with the university on its planning efforts as it seeks to identify effective solutions to lowering carbon emissions.”
