A Legacy of Service and Progress
At Ever-Green, our team applies our expertise to achieve your energy system goals.
We have reached numerous milestones with our partners over the past 30 years, and there was always a first.
2024
Technology firsts across the country:
• Ever-Green begins construction on the first commercial aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES) system in the US at The Heights, a Saint Paul Port Authority brownfield redevelopment.
• Ever-Green and Oberlin College complete installation of 850 geothermal wells and a steam to hot water conversion of a century-old system, keeping the campus on track to reach carbon neutrality by 2025.
• The team brings the black water recycling system online at the San Francisco Giants’ and Tishman Speyer redevelopment, Mission Rock with Ever-Green’s oversight. The system is designed to recycle 50,000 gallons per day for non-potable purposes in this gateway development in the Mission Bay neighborhood.
2023
Caterpillar, Inc. and the Department of Energy team up for a three-year pilot program of testing the efficiency of hydrogen fuel in a 2 MWe generator hosted by District Energy St. Paul. This combined heat and power unit will harness waste heat from electricity production in the form of usable thermal energy for the district heating network.
2021

2021
2019
Our team eliminates coal as a fuel source at District Energy St. Paul, two years ahead of schedule.
2019
In response to the growing demand for campus decarbonization support in higher education, Ever-Green launched our Roadmap to Carbon Neutrality offering pro bono services to University of Minnesota—Morris, University of St. Thomas, and the College of St. Benedict in 2019. In 2020, a second cohort included Macalester College and Slippery Rock University.
2015

The Plume Project moves Ever-Green’s long-standing energy education efforts into community dialogue through a public art series. Our team has supported education, outreach, and engagement for campuses and communities across the country, applying our expertise in customer care, energy literacy, and communications.
2015

Our collaboration begins at Milwaukee Regional Medical Center, a consortium of six health care institutions, including Level 1 Adult Trauma and Pediatric Trauma Centers. Ever-Green provides reliable service to health clinics, research labs, medical schools, and hospitals across our energy systems including 8 trauma centers providing lifesaving health care.
2011
The Ever-Green team installs and begins operating the first solar thermal installation in the US to connect to a district energy system at District Energy St. Paul. This project is a collaboration between the City of Saint Paul, the Saint Paul RiverCentre, and District Energy St. Paul.
2003
Our team installs 2.5-million- and 4.2-million-gallon thermal storage tanks to benefit customers with off-peak electricity rates and increased ability to meet higher customer demand at District Energy St. Paul.
2003

Ever-Green develops St. Paul Cogeneration and Environmental Wood Supply, the biomass-fueled combined heat and power (CHP) and tree waste processing operations that provide renewable heat to District Energy St. Paul and renewable electricity to Xcel Energy.
1998
Leaders at District Energy St. Paul establish Ever-Green Energy to advance systems beyond Saint Paul.
1983
The District Energy St. Paul steam to hot water conversion is completed for heating system start-up, recapitalizing the community’s district heating asset with origins dating back to 1880. Our flagship system, developed as a public-private partnership, continues to play a critical role in the city’s infrastructure. District cooling services followed a decade later.
