District Cooling in Cincinnati
CoolCo provides district energy services to the Central Business District in Cincinnati, Ohio.
CoolCo has served the Cincinnati community since 1997. Currently serving 16 customers including commercial office buildings, retail and hotel facilities, government buildings, and institutional facilities. The CoolCo team is working closely with the City of Cincinnati and local business and sustainability partners to consider future growth and potential for increased efficiency and renewable integration.
Chilled water is generated at a central plant and a satellite plant, capable of producing more than 10,000 tons of cooling. Recent improvements are helping customers save money and energy:
- High-efficiency cooling towers reduces evaporative drift, which saves water and reduces the plume from the towers
- New state-of-the-art centrifugal chiller installed in 2019 with a variable frequency drive improves efficiency
- Control system upgrade in 2017 allows for better system sequencing and energy savings

CoolCo was purchased in 2019 by Harrison Street, a leading investment management firm focused on the education, health care, storage and social infrastructure sectors. Headquartered in Chicago, Harrison Street has acquired or developed more than 1,030 assets in 47 states and specializes in public-private partnership infrastructure including partnerships with Duke Medicine, Cornish College of the Arts, Rush University Medical Center, Seattle University, Texas A&M University, Marquette University, the University of South Florida and the University of Chicago.
Harrison Street hired Ever-Green Energy as the CoolCo operations, maintenance, and management partner. The Ever-Green and Harrison Street partnership is jointly focused on delivering reliable and cost-effective energy solutions to the users of our energy systems. CoolCo provides an opportunity to grow and provide efficient services today, with a vision for renewable alternatives and decarbonization in the future.
