Test wells for a future aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES) system are being installed at the Re+4RM @US Bank site. Over the next several months, these test wells will be used to study the flow and thermal properties of the aquifer below the development site. The results of this study will be used to determine the best design for the district energy system, which will provide low-carbon heating and cooling to buildings on the system. Although this technology is used in thousands of energy systems globally, this ATES system will be the first of its kind in the US and provides a cost-effective means of providing low-carbon heating and cooling on a small footprint.
