October 7, 2021, at the International District Energy Association conference in Austin, Texas, IDEA presented the prestigious and much-anticipated 2021 IDEA System of the Year Award to the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center Thermal and their energy service partner Ever-Green Energy.
The award was accepted by Mark Geronime, PE, Vice President of Operations, Milwaukee Regional Medical Center, Robert Mlynarek, Vice President of Finance, Milwaukee Regional Medical Center, Ken Smith, President and CEO, Ever-Green Energy and others from the Ever-Green team.
“We are humbled to receive this award and follow the other prestigious members who have won. It has been rewarding to see our system achieve its vision of 100% reliability in support of the critical lifesaving care, education, and research that happens every day at the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center,” said Mark Geronime, “We are grateful to our construction and operations partners that have shared our goals and joined us in our bold decisions.”
As Bob Smith, Chair of the System of the Year Committee noted, “The selection of MRMC and Ever-Green for the 2021 System of the Year was an easy one. It is a shining example of how the partnership between our members and a medical campus energy system can benefit a large community. A 7.5 million square foot campus, delivering heating and cooling to 21 buildings across its 250-acre campus has lowered its greenhouse gas emissions by 70%, cut water use by 36% and raised its cooling reliability to 99.998%? That is an outstanding achievement worthy of this prestigious award and illustrates the inherent value of district energy to its customers.”
